Southampton
Hmm, Been having problems getting my blog to work properly recently.
I'm in Southampton now, at Southamton Solent University. The connection in my room goes through a proxy server, so it's not exactly lightning fast, and some stuff doesn't work.

Anyway, I had to make some changes to the webcam script a bit to make it work here, but it's all sorted now.

I've met loads of people here. I'm just next to the common room in my building, and we've got a free pool table so I've spent quite a bit of time playing, and being beaten.

Strawberry Crush
Matt, my random geektastic drinking buddy from Milton Keynes has set up a little site for us and some other people to put stuff. There's no specific focus, but it's becoming my new dumping ground for random geeky stuff.

Don't ask me about the name. I don't know either.

Lap Happy
As a "well done" present for my exams, my folks bought me a laptop :-)

It's pretty fucking sexy, I have to say. I'm going to update the "Compy" page with the spec. Suffice to say, I'm now using 64-bit Kubuntu Linux with support for dual-core. It's totally awesome.

There's a webcam built in to the underside of the lid, unfortunately, it's not supported by linux. However... I did lsusb, found the product ID and Googled it. Within 10 minutes I'd found an active project dedicated to writing or aquiring a driver forthe very webcam built in to my laptop. Seems that Asus laptops are very popular with Linux users, and they seem to be on their way to getting it working. I love open source :-)

Oh yeah, and it came with Windows XP Home. Bleach. It took the best part of an hour and a half to set itself up, and I like it even less using it myself than when I've used it on friends' computers. However, it means I can play Oblivion, so I'll keep it.

Keeping it Cool
On the way back from the pub, some drunk guy just knocked me in the head.
I'd say he punched me, but it was more like knocking on a door than punching someone, it wasn't exactly forceful or accurate.
And you know what? I didn't even consider retaliation. He started it, so pretty much anything I did would've classed as self defence (and he was so drunk he'd probably gone down with a push), but I didn't even think to lay a finger on him.

Damn, I'm good.

Nethack
I've become completely addicted to a game called Nethack. It's a text mode Dungeons & Dragons style RPG, and it's ridiculously hard, but I can't stop playing. I just played for 2 hours before I died, which is the longest I've managed so far. I'm just about to start again.

I've also ordered a fucking sexy laptop, a present from my folks for my A levels. Of course, since it'll run it, I've also ordered Oblivion. I'm going to have to work out how to satisfy both my Nethack addiction and the addiction I'll inevitably get for Oblivion, as well as having a life ;-)

And I'm moving to Southampton on the 23rd of September! Scary stuff!

A Levels
A in Computing
B in Politics
C in Maths

I should have gotten an A in politics. Dammit. Still, I only needed a D in computing for university :-)
"A levels are getting easier?" Fuck off. YOU try taking them.

Change
Is it right to change yourself so that other people will like you? In every other sitation I'd say "No", without even thinking about it.

But there's something about me that I know She doesn't like. If I changed it, she might like me more.
Of course, she might not...

The thing is, even if I did, and she did like me for it, would it be me that she liked? Would I still be me if I changed? Would she only like the fact that I'm willing to change to please her, and not like me in the first place?

Bit of a poser that.
