As a "well done" present for my exams, my folks bought me a laptop :-)
It's pretty fucking sexy, I have to say. I'm going to update the "
Compy" page with the spec. Suffice to say, I'm now using
64-bit Kubuntu Linux with support for dual-core. It's totally awesome.
There's a webcam built in to the underside of the lid, unfortunately, it's not supported by linux. However... I did
lsusb, found the product ID and Googled it. Within 10 minutes I'd found an active project dedicated to writing or aquiring a driver forthe very webcam built in to my laptop. Seems that
Asus laptops are very popular with Linux users, and they seem to be on their way to getting it working. I love open source :-)
Oh yeah, and it came with
Windows XP Home. Bleach. It took the best part of an hour and a half to set itself up, and I like it even less using it myself than when I've used it on friends' computers. However, it means I can play Oblivion, so I'll keep it.
